Emily Mills is the EMU Bright Futures Site Coordinator at Ypsilanti International Elementary School. She started teaching in 2014 and has pursued a love of English education both as a public school educator in Michigan and internationally during two years living abroad in Japan! She has taught middle school and high school English, and has been involved with the YMCA and Washtenaw Literacy to support ESL (English as a Second Language) learning for community members around Washtenaw County. She earned her B.A. in English and Communications, and her M.A. in Secondary Education from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.
When not coming up with new games to play with the kiddos, she can be found strumming her ukulele, camping around the state, and taking long walks around town. Be sure to say hi if you see her!
Y.I.E.S. EMU Bright Futures program serves students in second through fifth grade. During Bright Futures, students have the opportunity to choose from various enrichment activities such as arts, sports, dance, engineering, and more. We also offer homework and reading support. Community partners include the Bricks4Kids, Black and Brown Theatre, and the Ypsilanti District Library. All of our activities are designed to promote teamwork, empathy, and social-emotional learning.
