After graduating with a Bachelor’s in English Education, Rayna spent a summer in Flint, MI as an Americorps VISTA volunteer. This was her first experience working with an after-school program and she fell in love. After teaching high school English for a year, Rayna needed to return to the after-school world and luckily found EMU Bright Futures. Due to a passion for traveling and learning from others, Rayna joined the Peace Corps and served for two years in Pemba, Mozambique. These years taught her to face fears and try anything once! She aims to bring a global perspective and sense of advocacy to her students. When not traveling, Rayna enjoys spending time with her family and doting on her nephew who is way too old to be doted on!
Bright Futures at Estabrook Elementary serves 2nd- 5th grade students. Our goal is to build a safe environment where students feel like they are a part of a loving and caring community. We prioritize social emotional learning such as emotional management, empathy and teamwork in order to help students build strong relationships that will last a lifetime. Homework help is supported by Brain Gym activities that teach students about their brain development and use of exercises to calm the body and brain. Club topics range from basketball, gymnastics, and Olympic Games to poetry and Robotics. These are based off of student interests and vary from year to year. Involving families is very important to us! We host regular family dinners and events throughout the year.
Program is from 2:30pm-5pm, Monday thru Thursday.
There is also a summer program that runs mid-June to late July
