My name is Jorge Luna-Cruz. I started to work for Bright Futures as the Interim Coordinator at Erickson Elementary School in February 2020. Previously, I worked for the Ypsilanti Community School District with English Language Learners. I am originally from Oaxaca, Mexico. I received a teaching degree in Teaching Foreign Languages from the University of Benito Juarez of Oaxaca. I have experience teaching students at different levels in Mexico and in the United States. I have worked with minority, indigenous, and immigrant communities, as well as, international students.
With the experience that I have working at Ypsilanti Community Schools, I want to continue supporting our students at Bright Futures, at Erickson Elementary, by providing engaging activities that create learning opportunities and provide social and emotional skills to them.
The Bright Futures Program is super excited about entering its fourth year at Erickson Elementary. The aim of our program is to create a space that is safe and engaging in which students have an active voice. Bright Futures meets Monday through Thursday, from 2:30pm to 5:10pm.
The purpose of our program is to help our students succeed in and out of school. Our goal is to support academic growth and community ties through teaching students leadership and grit. The Bright Futures Program is offering a wide variety of after school activities that are available to students. The program will have a regular schedule that will focus on physical and mental activities.
The Bright Futures Program recognizes the important role parents play in their child’s education. The Parent Advisory Board is a great opportunity for any parent to get involved in the program. The Parent Advisory Board will plan activities for students. There will be parent nights and performances from students throughout the year. Lastly, there is a 6-week summer program that runs from mid-June until late July.
